Patrol FAQ
FAQ
What should I do with the stock ZD wiring and ECU?
-
The stock ECM must stay in the vehicle. It controls more than just the engine, including the tachometer and air conditioning.
-
It's best to get a wiring diagram and label everything when removing the loom from the motor.
-
Anything not used can be cut and terminated or unpinned from the ECU plug.
Do I need a fancy electric lift pump?
-
AirDog is the best option.
-
Alternatively, you can use an Aeroflow Black lift pump with stock OEM filters.
Will the factory ZD30 radiator work?
-
No.
-
You'll need to swap to a TB45 radiator so the ports are on the correct side.
How do I convert from fly-by-wire to cable throttle?
-
Remove the stock electronic pedal.
-
Replace it with a mechanical pedal from a TD42, TB42, or RD28.
-
Use a pre-made cable and mount it through the stock firewall hole.
Do I need to remove the factory battery box to fit an airbox?
-
No. The standard battery box frame can stay.
-
FFM makes an airbox that fits with the battery tray for driver’s side entry.
-
Alternatively, use a Radius Fab pod box for driver’s side entry with a crossover pipe.
How do I get the tachometer to work?
-
Use your factory tacho sensor and mount it on the balancer.
-
You'll need to add four evenly spaced slots to the balancer to produce the correct signal.
-
-
Or, tap the alternator and use a Dakota Digital box to correct the pulse signal.
Where do I hook up the heater core lines?
-
Connect them above and below the thermostat housing.
Can I run only the filters on the AirDog pump, or do I need to keep the OEM filters?
-
You can delete the OEM filters.
-
Running all 4 filters will restrict diesel flow and reduce power output.
